A day in san bernardino
During a recent trip to Switzerland, I spent a day in San Bernardino, a small mountain village in the canton of Grisons. I had returned home to take a break from a difficult year, and decided to rediscover my home region through my lens.
Southern Switzerland was the backdrop of my early life, but I never truly saw it until I returned with a camera in hand. What once felt familiar and limiting now feels layered, textured, and full of quiet beauty. San Bernardino, though not in my home canton of Ticino, struck me in a similar way. It’s about an hour from my hometown, and as I wandered its streets, camera in hand, I felt at home.
It wasn't just about the scenery, it was a deep sense of belonging. The landscape, the people, and the way the place seemed to breathe new life into me made me feel grounded in a way I hadn’t experienced in a long time.
Photography has given me the language to appreciate where I come from and the tools to reshape how I relate to it. This project, this return to Switzerland, is still unfolding, and maybe it always will be. With every image, I feel a little closer to understanding not just the place, but also myself.
